Drinking plenty of purified
water helps the nervous system and body function properly. Dehydrate our bodies of water and it would
be reduce to a couple of pounds of dust.
Recently I came across an article illustrating a study from Linda Loma
University in Linda Loma, California.
Doctors found people drinking more than 5 glasses of purified water
reduced their risk of heart attacks by 1/2.
This makes drinking purified water right up there with exercise, eating
healthy, and not smoking in the arsenal of heart disease prevention. You can’t count just any beverage either, it
must be plain good ol’ pure water.
Why? The speculative theory suggests those
beverages you have to digest, require water initially to be drawn into the
stomach to begin the digestive process resulting in thickening the blood. Thick blood is harder to pump making the
heart work harder thus increasing the risk for clot-induced heart attacks and
strokes.
Interestingly another
article by a cardiologist recommended that his patients give blood on a regular
basis. His goal too was to thin the
blood. Also the loss of blood
stimulated the body to produce new blood and new components of blood such as
red blood cells which carry oxygen to all tissues. This reminded me of the ancient middle age practice of blood
letting to get the evil spirits out allowing the body to heal. Most ancient practices produce grains of
truth if you look. Some helpful effects must have been observed to carry on the
practice of blood letting for so long.
However, I don’t think anyone is arguing with the fact that even though
George Washington died of pneumonia, the well intended blood letting he
received before he died didn’t help matters much.
Above all do not harm, I
think is a good rule to following when evaluating prevention practices. Nature has certain rules that we must abide
to maintain our health. There are
twelve basic rules. As you read the
list most will sound like “no brainers”, yet we as society fail to follow these
rules on a regular basis. They are the
following:
Water
Properly Functioning Nervous
System
Nourishment (Dietary
Factors)
Sunlight
Activity
Companionship/Love
Appropriate Temperature
Sleep and Rest
Cleanliness
Air
Peace of Mind and Purpose of
Living
Freedom of Toxic Influences
A properly functioning
nervous system is key in the maintenance of health because through it all
functions of the body are directed.
Stress is a large factor in heart disease. You react to stress through your nervous system. There is actually a collection of nerve
endings called the carotid sinus. Its
job is to detect changes in blood pressure.
If the blood pressure gets dangerously high then it signals the kidneys
dump some water. If the blood pressure
is too low it signals the kidneys to keep recycling the fluid in the blood
stream to maintain blood volume. This
is all done under the direction of the nervous system. Throw a monkey wrench into this system and
you can see how problems begin to develop.
The dominance of the nervous system in the maintenance of health is the
basis of chiropractic.
Each of
nature’s rules is important working synergistically with one another. Lacking of one throws the body off
balance. Keep the body off balance for
years and health ceases to be maintained.
